When you line up the spines of books, as Librarians are destined to do daily, you start to notice patterns. Phrases emerge. This is the essence of Book Spine Poetry.
The idea is not a new one. Also known as Centos, a quick Google search for "Book Spine Poems" or "Spine Poetry" or "Spine Label Poems" or "poem pile" will lead you to many library and literary blogs and websites where people have posted their photos. I started doing it on the whimsical (and not entirely serious) suggestion of my public library manager. I was quickly addicted. How to communicate ideas and thoughts is enough of a challenge, nevermind when you don't have full control of the words you can use.
But the creative satisfaction is totally worth it. Go on. Give it a try!
